Kevin Inouye is an Assistant Professor of Movement, Acting, & Stage Combat at Case Western Reserve University and the CWRU/Cleveland Playhouse MFA Acting Program. He is also a Certified Teacher, and Theatrical Firearms Instructor, with the Society of American Fight Directors, and a proud SAG-AFTRA stunt performer and actor (with Docherty Talent). He holds Affiliate member status with the Stage Directors & Choreographers Society (SDC), and is a member of the Association of Theatre Movement Educators (ATME) and the International Order of the Sword & Pen, with whom he also serves on the Artistic Advisory Committee.
Kevin holds an MFA in Theatre Pedagogy from Virginia Commonwealth University, graduate certificate in Sustainable Change from Antioch University Seattle, and a BA in Psychology from Earlham College, with additional LeCoq movement training with Dody DiSanto through the Center for Movement Theatre in Washington DC. This coast-to-coast eclecticism is also reflected in his work, which has included live theatre and film/video acting and stunt work, award-winning fight choreography, movement consultation, gun wrangling, direction, and more. He has previously taught at the University of Wyoming, Virginia Commonwealth University, Christopher Newport University, and the College of William & Mary, as well as through schools, theatres, conventions, festivals, and stage combat workshops across North America. He also runs a small business on the side providing prop weapons rentals, fight direction, and other services (www.fightdesigner.com).
He is the author of The Theatrical Firearms Handbook (Focal Press, 2014) and several articles in The Fight Master, the Journal of the Society of American Fight Directors, and a chapter in Physical Dramaturgy, a shared project with fellow ATME members through Routledge press.n His second contracted book, The Screen Combat Handbook, should come out in 2020.
